Applications for motor vehicle repair licensing

In Western Australia the Motor Vehicle Repairers Act 2003 says:

  • If you operate a motor vehicle repair business you must hold a Motor Vehicle Repair Business Licence (MRB).
  • Individuals wishing to carry out classes of repair work on or to motor vehicles are required to hold a Motor Vehicle Repairer's Certificate.

Motor vehicle repair business licence or motor vehicle repairer's certificate: what's the difference?

Are you:

  • the owner of a motor vehicle repair business?
  • a self-employed motor vehicle repairer?
  • the operator of a mobile repair business?
  • an employer of a certified repairer who supervises repair work?

If you answered "yes" to any of the questions above, you need a motor vehicle repair business licence

Do you:

  • own a repair business and do repair work?
  • supervise the repair work of others?
  • work under a supervisor who does not have a certificate for the same class of repair work as you?
  • do repair work unsupervised?

If you answered "yes" to any of the questions above, you need a motor vehicle repairer's certificate.
