Firearms Licence Types

Individual – Hunting (previously Rec/Hunt/Shoot)

• Allows you to use your licensed hunting firearms on registered properties where the property owner/occupier has provided you with permission (standard hunting permission) to lawfully hunt animals.
• To be issued with a temporary hunting permission, you must already hold an Individual - Hunting licence.   

Individual – Competition (previously Club)

• Allows you to use your licensed competition firearms at a licensed firearm range to participate in shooting competitions organised by a licensed firearm club.
• In order to obtain an Individual Competition Licence, you require a letter of support from a licensed firearm club (Club Letter).

Individual – Paintball (previously Club) 

• Allows you to use your licensed paintball guns to participate in paintball games, at licensed paintball business.

• Allows you to use your primary producer licensed firearms on primary production land, for primary production purposes.
• You can utilise your primary producer firearms on other primary production land where you have permission from the property owner/occupier.
• A Primary Producer Licence holder is also taking to hold a Hunting Licence

Authorised Person: 

• An authorised person under a Primary Producer Licence is authorised to use the firearms held under the Primary Producer Licence for primary production purposes, in the same manner as the licence holder (This does not include hunting).
• This requires an application process, regardless if the intended authorised person already holds their own Firearm Licence.

Trade – Dealer

• Allows you to operate a business as firearms dealer.  Where you have more than one location, you must have a separate licence for each location.

Trade – Manufacturer

• Allows you to operate a business to manufacture firearms.

Trade – Repairer

• Allows you to operate a business to repair licensed firearms.

Trade – Storage (previously warehouse)

• Allows you to operate a business to store licensed firearms.

Authorised Person: 

• An authorised person, is authorised to possess or use firearms held under the Trade Licence as authorised by the Trade Licence type.
• This requires an application process, regardless if the intended authorised person already holds their own Firearm Licence.

Business licences include the following subcategories:

Business – Professional Shooter

• Allows you to operate a business of providing a service that involves the sedation of animals by means of a firearm; or the culling, euthanasia or other humane destruction of animals by means of a firearm. 

Business – Firearms Training

• Allows you to operate a business that provides firearms training.
• Requires you to be approved as a training provider.

Business – Security Agent

• Allows you to operate a business that provides security agents, for licensed security operations.

Business – Paintball Business

• Allows you to operate a paintball business for commercial paintball activities.

Business – Theatrical

• Allows you to operate a business of providing firearms training to, and supervision of, actors and others engaged in theatrical performances.

Authorised Person:

• Authorised person are authorised to possess or use the firearms held under the Business licence as authorised by the Business licence type.
• This requires an application process, regardless if the intended authorised person already holds their own Firearm Licence.

• Allows you to collect firearms and/or ammunition.
• The firearms and/or ammunition you collect must fall within the scope of your applied interest as a student of arms, and have either significant commemorative, historic, or thematic value.
• A Collector Licence does not allow you to use any firearm or ammunition held under the licence.

• Allows you to operate a licensed firearm club, to arrange for your members to participate in competition shooting or target shooting.

Authorised Person:

• Authorised person can use club firearms for competition shooting, target shooting or firearms training at a licensed range.
• This requires an application process, regardless if the intended authorised person already holds their own Firearm Licence.

• Allows you to operate a firearms range. This includes indoor or outdoor facilities for competition shooting, target shooting, and firearms training.

Authorised Person:

• Authorised person can use range firearms for competition shooting, target shooting or firearms training.
• This requires an application process, regardless if the intended authorised person already holds their own Firearm Licence.

• Allows you to obtain a licence for specified government purposes (e.g., animal control, law enforcement, museum activities)

Authorised Person: 

• An authorised person, would be permitted to utilise the firearms that are listed against the Government Entity Licence.
• They can only utilise the firearms in the same manner as per the Government Entity Licence.
• This requires an application process, regardless if the intended authorised person already holds their own Firearm Licence.
