Vision
To empower and support remote Aboriginal communities in the Fitzroy Crossing subdistrict to create their own, place-based safety plan for before or when Family Violence occurs and encourage access to post crisis support services to reduce risk and harm to individuals, families and the wider community.
Background
The Fitzroy Crossing Policing subdistrict is an expansive Policing territory covering 32991 square kilometres with 54 communities within its borders.
The tyranny of distance is a constant challenge to delivering quality and timely service to people in these areas.
Compounding this is the additional challenge of seasonal flooding making many of these communities very difficult, if not impossible for emergency services to access.
The Fitzroy Crossing Police recognise the benefit of supporting community led initiatives to tackle the issue of community safety. We are committed to collaboration and supporting local people to take ownership of their issues and develop their own solutions to drive positive change.
In consultation with the community, Fitzroy Crossing Police identified a need for individual, community specific safety plans to help prevent Family Violence before it occurs and reduce harm caused when it occurs.
