To apply for a new Individual Licence, you will need to:
- Provide a completed firearm authority health examination; and
- Provide a completed mandatory firearms safety training course which includes;
- Theory Training (via TAFE)
- Practical Training (via an Approved Practical Trainer)
- Provide a completed Firearms Identification and Serviceability Certificate
- Obtain the relevant written authority for your licence purpose (Hunting, Competition, Paintball)
- Provide evidence that you meet the relevant Storage Requirements
- Complete the process outlined below
Note: Please follow the photo guidelines for all applications. Should the Firearm Licence Photo Standards not be met, your application will not be progressed.

WRITTEN AUTHORITIES
Hunting Licence – Standard Hunting Permission
- You will need to obtain a portal-issued hunting permission from the owner/manager of a registered property.
- Please consult the linked information sheet regarding firearms and acreage requirements.
- If you do not hold an active hunting permission from the owner/manager of a registered property, then you will not be eligible to hold an Individual Hunting Licence.
- If you, or any other landowner are having technical difficulties getting your property registered via the portal, or issuing hunting permissions via the portal, please contact our Transition Team on 1300 894 474 immediately for assistance.
Competition Licence – Club Support Form
- You will need to obtain suitable club support from a licensed firearms club.
- The completed club support form must include information about the shooting discipline in which you intend to compete.
- If you do not have suitable club support from a licensed firearms club, then you will not be eligible to hold an Individual Competition Licence.
Paintball Licence – Letter of Support
- You will need to obtain a suitable letter of support from a Paintball Business Licence.
- The completed letter of support form must confirm that you have participated in at least 3 paintball games conducted under the authority of the Paintball Business Licence within the last 6 months.
- If you do not have a suitable letter of support from a Paintball Business Licence, then you will not be eligible to hold an Individual Paintball Licence.
SECURITY & STORAGE
- Should your current storage and security arrangements be ineligible for grandfathering, you will be required to provide evidence of upgraded storage and security before your licence can be issued.
- If you do require upgraded storage and/or security, you will need to email your completed Storage Statement to FirearmsProject@police.wa.gov.au referencing your licence number.
- Please consult the storage matrix below to determine the storage and security requirements that apply to your circumstances. It should be noted that your storage requirements are determined by the number and type of firearms on your licence, plus any other firearms registered to your storage location.
NUMERICAL LIMITS
Hunting Licence
- Individual Hunting Licences may only apply to Category A & B firearms.
- Individual Hunting Licences are subject to a Numerical Limit of five (5) firearms.
Competition Licence
- Individual Competition Licences are subject to a Numerical Limit of ten (10) firearms.
Note: Additional barrels that are approved for the licence do not count against this limit.
Paintball Licence
- Individual Paintball Licences may only apply to Paintball Markers.
- Individual Paintball Licences are not subject to a Numerical Limit.

| Permission to Co-license Firearms LSF9 | Use this form if you wish to co-license a firearm with another person. It lets WA Police assess and approve co-user permission as part of your application. |
