Victim Notification Service

The Western Australia Police Force is launching a new Victim Notification Service (VNS) to better connect victims of crime with police and support services.
Last updated:

From 11 August 2026, victims of certain crimes will receive an automated text message from the WA Police Force, giving them immediate confirmation of their Incident Report (IR) number and contact details for follow-up.

The message will also provide links to relevant online resources, including information about safety, security and victim support services.

Following a successful trial in Midland, the service will be rolled out in a phased approach, initially for victims of assault, burglary, stealing and fraud, before progressing to more serious offences.

Police Commissioner Col Blanch said using technology to provide better, consistent connections and support for victims of crime is a key priority.

“The VNS aims to provide peace of mind for victims, assuring them that police are handling their case, while empowering them with access to support services.”

“Future applications could include automated status updates and a portal for victims to view their investigation status and learn of any important developments.”

Officers will advise victims they will receive the message unless they choose not to, using the contact number provided. The sender will display as “WAPolice” on the recipient’s device rather than a phone number, and they will not be asked to enter any personal information.

VNS currently applies to the following offence types:

  • Assault Common
  • Assault Occasioning Bodily Harm
  • Burglary and Commit
  • Burglary with Intent
  • Damage
  • Fraud – Credit/Debit Card Offences
  • Stealing from Motor Vehicle (contents or parts)
  • Stealing of Motor Vehicle
  • Stealing (General)

Members of the public who receive a message in error are urged to contact the Police Assistance Centre on 131 444.
