Through the development and implementation of policies, programs and services, the OMI aims to achieve the full potential of multiculturalism.

OMI is part of the Department of Local Government, Sport and Cultural Industries. We work to achieve the full potential of multiculturalism in Western Australia. This requires strategies that include the whole community, including business and industry groups, government and non-government agencies, culturally diverse communities and the wider community.

Western Australia is one of the most culturally, linguistically and religiously diverse states in Australia, with 32% of the population born overseas. The State is home to people originating from 190 countries, speaking around 240 languages and dialects, including Aboriginal languages, and following more than 100 faiths. The development and implementation of culturally inclusive policies, programs and services requires the OMI to work with business and industry groups, government and non-government agencies, CaLD communities and the wider community.
