Frequently asked questions

Who can nominate?

Any member of the WA Police Force may nominate a WA Police Force employee or member of the community for recognition through Award Force, including submitting a nomination on their own behalf.

Who can be nominated?

Any police officer, police staff member, or member of the community may be nominated for recognition through Award Force, where their actions, service, or contributions are known to a WA Police Force employee and meet the relevant award criteria.

What awards are available?

Awards include WA Police Force bravery and meritorious awards, service-related medals and national honours. The award available will depend on the nominee, the circumstances, and the applicable eligibility criteria.

How do I know which award is appropriate?

The nomination form will guide you through the available award categories.

As a general guide, the most appropriate award is the one that best reflects the nominee’s actions, level of risk, contribution, service or achievement.

If you are unsure, provide as much detail as possible and the Recognition and Awards Unit will review the nomination against the relevant criteria.

What information do I need to submit a nomination?

You will need details of the nominee, information about the incident, service or achievement being recognised, and any supporting material that may assist assessment, such as documents, photographs, video or other relevant evidence.

You should include enough information to explain what occurred, when it occurred, who was involved and why the conduct is considered worthy of recognition.

How long will it take to submit a nomination?

The time required will depend on the information available to you and the complexity of the nomination. You may save a nomination and return to it later; however, it will not be submitted for consideration until it is finalised.

Can I nominate a team?

Yes. A team, unit, district or community group may be nominated where their collective actions demonstrate the relevant level of commitment, dedication, professionalism or bravery required for the award being considered, and where a WA Police Force member has knowledge of the incident or actions giving rise to the nomination.

Can I nominate a member of the community?

Any member of the WA Police Force with direct knowledge of the circumstances may nominate a member of the community for recognition through Award Force where their actions satisfy the relevant award criteria, including bravery, meritorious conduct, or significant contributions.

Can I nominate someone anonymously?

No. Nominators are required to register and submit nominations using a valid email address, so the nomination can be managed, verified and progressed through the assessment process.

Will the nominee know they have been nominated?

No. Individuals recommended for recognition are not informed of their nomination unless and until it is appropriate to do so as part of the approved notification process.

Who assesses nominations?

Nominations are assessed through a staged process to determine whether the eligibility requirements for the relevant award are met.

This may include initial review, verification of the nomination details, consideration against the award criteria, and endorsement through the appropriate approval pathway before any award is recommended for conferral.

How long will it take for my nomination to be processed?

Processing times vary depending on the type of award, the information provided, any further evidence required and the relevant approval process.

Some nominations involve multiple eligibility and approval stages and may take time to complete.

What happens if more information is required?

If more information is required, the Recognition and Awards Unit may contact the nominator or undertake further enquiries to gather supporting material before the nomination is progressed.

How will I be notified of the outcome?

You will be notified by email using the contact details provided with your nomination.

Automated email updates may be issued at key stages, and a member of the Recognition and Awards Unit may contact you directly where required.
