The State Government has awarded a further $8 million to increase housing in the Kimberley and Pilbara through the Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation (ACCO) Aboriginal Employee Housing Grants Program.
The Department of Housing and Works (DHW) delivers the program which is supported by the North-West Aboriginal Housing Fund (NWAHF).
Four ACCOs were awarded grants to increase the supply of housing for Aboriginal employees and their families, ultimately helping organisations attract and retain a skilled local workforce.
The ACCOs will collectively deliver 13 additional homes through new builds and spot purchases.
The previous grants program recipients were announced in January 2025, with $10.44 million allocated to six ACCOs, bringing the total State Government investment to $18.44 million.
The property pictured is one of 19 new build homes supported through the initial allocation of funding and delivered by Wunan Foundation Inc. Six units are on track for completion by the end of the year. Of the remaining 13 homes, five are complete and ready for occupancy, four are in final factory fit-out, and a further four are nearing completion with landscaping and flooring works underway.
Prue Jenkins, Chief Executive Officer of the Wunan Foundation Inc., praised the grants program.
“This investment will strengthen Wunan’s ability to attract and retain skilled Aboriginal employees by providing secure, affordable housing in the East Kimberley.
“It supports greater workforce stability and enables Wunan to continue delivering strong outcomes for Aboriginal people, families and communities across the region.”
The ACCO Aboriginal Employee Housing Grants Program is part of the State Government's record $10.8 billion investment in housing related initiatives since 2021.
