Interest in animals, insects and plants traditionally used as food by Aboriginal people continues to grow. Native ingredients like the Kakadu Plum are high in vitamins and minerals.

The Supporting Aboriginal Businesses in the Bushfood Industry event will be hosted by the Department of Primary Industries and Regional development in partnership with Outback Academy Australia.

The event aims to encourage Indigenous participation in the farming and distribution of bushfoods as it is estimated that only 15% of the industry is made up of Aboriginal businesses.

The two-day event will include industry presentations, a farm tour and a bushfood catered sundowner.

Day two will feature a bushfood product and business planning workshop for Aboriginal business led by Indigenous Business Australia (IBA).

Register online for the day one industry presentations and sundowner and the day two workshop or call 0459 867 908. Registrations are essential by 22 October 2021.

A targeted bushfoods event will be held in northern Western Australia in 2022.
