Western Australians will benefit from a more nationally consistent public holiday calendar from 2028, following the passage of the Public and Bank Holiday Amendment Act 2026 through Parliament.

The changes introduce two new public holidays and adjust the timing of three existing public holidays to better align with the rest of Australia, providing greater consistency for businesses and celebrating what makes Western Australia special.

The changes to public holidays in WA that will commence from 2028 are:

  • Labour Day will move to the second Monday in March (except during State Election years, when it will be held on the third Monday in March);
  • WA Day will move to the second Monday in November;
  • the King’s Birthday public holiday will be moved to the second Monday in June;
  • Easter Saturday will be a public holiday; and
  • Show Day will be a new public holiday to be set by proclamation to coincide with the first Monday of the September/October school holidays.

The 2028 and 2029 public holiday dates are now available on Public holidays in Western Australia.
