Public consultation is now open on the draft Aboriginal Affairs Planning Authority Bill 2026.
The proposed reforms aim to remove longstanding legislative barriers to ALT divestment and create more pathways for Aboriginal decision making, control and management of Aboriginal land.
The reforms apply only to land within the ALT estate, which covers around 21.9 million hectares, or 8.7 per cent of Western Australia’s land mass, and is already set aside for the benefit of Aboriginal people.
Aboriginal people, stakeholders and the community are invited to provide feedback through consultation sessions held across Western Australia.

Written submissions are also invited through the Have Your Say, WA! Website. Consultation closes on 4 September 2026.
