An equipment audit by department staff found three 12-volt car fridges were surplus and could be put to better use in the community.
Red Cross team members Alison Jardine and Harpreet Kaur were delighted to receive the donation, telling our Director General Alistair Jones the fridges would greatly expand the food aid offered to clients.
“We’re very grateful – this kind of donation makes such a difference to what we can offer, and it’s exciting to think about what that might be,” said Alison.
“The donation is in line with our values of We Care and We Serve to Make a Difference,” said Alistair.
“Repurposing the fridges has made a significant impact, saving nearly 60kg going to landfill and enhancing support for vulnerable community members,” he said.
The gesture follows earlier donations of unwanted furniture to a separate community group who have since repurposed them for arts and education use.
