The Department of Housing and Works (DHW) has set the path forward with the launch of its Strategic Directions 2026-2029, providing a clear and shared focus for DHW over the next three years.
The Strategic Directions build on the strong foundations established during DHW’s first year, while setting out how DHW will continue delivering housing, infrastructure and government services that support communities across Western Australia.
Guided by the vision of ‘Building a better Western Australia’, the Strategic Directions reaffirm a strong commitment to building and maintaining places and spaces, and delivering services, that empower people to live, learn, work and belong.
The Strategic Directions are centred on two themes — Delivering Today and Building our Tomorrow — which balance DHW’s focus on meeting today's housing, infrastructure and service delivery needs while investing in the people, systems and capability required for long term success.
Four strategic priorities will guide our work through to 2029:
- Infrastructure that builds communities – delivering with a focus on housing, infrastructure and government assets
- Responsive services – providing consistent and quality services across DHW, government and the community with strong accountability and a focus on clients
- Strong foundations – building the organisational foundations required for efficient and sustainable delivery
- Building capability, delivering together – strengthening capability, leadership and culture anchored in clear values and shared purpose.
Director General Leon McIvor officially launched the Strategic Directions to staff on 3 August 2026; highlighting the important role that every DHW employee plays in supporting and delivering for Western Australians.
