Rio Tinto FIFO workers will be able roll up their sleeves to receive a COVID-19 vaccine at a new trial pop-up clinic at Perth Airport from mid-September.

The trial program is expected to provide 1,000 vaccinations a week to start, with the clinic operating 3 days a week during the six-week trial.

The trial will also be expanded to mining locations in the Pilbara for both workers and community members, with additional trial clinics planned in Tom Price and Paraburdoo.

WA Health will provide clinical support for the Perth Airport trial clinic, while mining companies will provide logistical resources, staff and communications.

Further discussions are underway with other mining companies to encourage high vaccination uptake among the workforce and industry.
