Finalists announced for the WasteSorted Awards 2026

The awards, hosted by the Waste Authority, honour people and organisations leading the way in waste avoidance, reuse, repair and recycling. 

A total of 37 finalists across 10 categories have been selected for initiatives such as keeping valuable goods in circulation through reuse and repair, delivering engaging programs to reduce clothing consumption among young people and supporting residents to minimise contamination through innovative approaches. 

Award categories span a broad cross-section of the community, recognising contributions from individuals, businesses, government, schools, community organisations and not-for-profits. 

The 2026 award categories are: 

• Community Waste Award 

• Schools Award 

• Business Award 

• Waste Champion Award 

• Waste Team Award 

• Local Government Award 

• Regional Award 

• Community Events and Engagement Award 

• Innovation Award 

• Closing the Loop Award. 

Waste Authority Chair Elizabeth Carr AM congratulated all finalists for their contributions to reducing waste across Western Australia 

“The WasteSorted Awards showcase practical solutions that are helping to avoid waste, recover valuable resources and make landfill the last resort, while supporting the goals of Western Australia’s Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Strategy,” she said.  

“From local community projects to industry-leading initiatives, these finalists are delivering significant environmental and social benefits across the state. 

“I encourage Western Australians to learn more about the finalists’ work and be inspired by the positive difference they are making.” 

Winners will be announced at the gala awards ceremony on 10 September.
