The system is a crucial part of Western Australia's Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Strategy 2030 and is supported by the State Government's $20 million Better Bins Plus: Go FOGO program, and is improving recycling and reducing waste throughout WA, with participating local governments achieving a recovery rate of 56 per cent.

That's compared to 39 per cent for those with the three-bin Go FOGO system and 14 per cent for those with the two-bin system.

FOGO is currently available to 22 local governments in the Perth, Peel and South West regions, with the addition of Town of Cambridge, City of Swan, and Shire of Mundaring meaning 250,000 households in WA will soon have access to the three-bin system.

The system is currently available to Town of Cambridge and Shire of Mundaring residents with City of Swan to stage its rollout as part of a transition to the FOGO system.

It's expected nine more local governments in Perth will introduce FOGO by June 2026.
