To help us all stay safe and aware this summer, our colleagues at Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) have launched their ‘Got 15 Minutes to Burn’ campaign which reminds us all to take time out of our day to make a bushfire plan.

Being prepared can make all the difference and save your life.

At Finance, we appreciate the work DFES does to make sure that the Western Australian community is prepared for the bushfire season and we’re proud to support their work through our Government buildings program.

One highlight is the work we did to complete the Northampton Volunteer Fire and Rescue Station (VFRS) construction, which won an Australian Institute of Project Management AIPM award in the Regional Project category for the WA Chapter in August.

On behalf of DFES, we delivered the project for the Northampton VFRS which met the operational requirements of the volunteers and local groups. We engaged with Eastman Poletti Sherwood Architects as the Lead Consultant and local Indigenous builder GBSC Yurra to build a project that considered climate and sustainability factors.

The result was a station that maximises renewable energy, organic materials and the lay of the land. By being prepared in the planning, design, and construction phases, we future-proofed a build that will benefit the Northampton community and dedicated volunteers. By making your fire plan early, you too can be better prepared to protect yourself.
