How safe is your caravan or trailer?

The April school holidays and Easter long weekend are quickly approaching, a time when families traditionally pack up the caravan or trailer and get away around the state.

To ensure the road safety of all road users travelling over the break, Road Safety Council Chairman Iain Cameron has urged motorists to ensure their vehicles and trailers are roadworthy.

“If you’re towing a load this Easter, please take the time to check it before you set off,” said Mr Cameron.

“During previous holiday periods, WA Police Force officers have reported seeing caravans, trailers and loads that are unsecure and unroadworthy, so check your tyres, check your air pressure and make sure your load is safe.”

The City of Wanneroo is offering residents a free check-up for their caravan or trailer on Saturday 6 April between 8am-12pm, at the City’s Ashby Operations Centre at 1204 Wanneroo Road in Ashby.

Volunteers from the City of Wanneroo RoadWise Working Group will inspect caravans and trailers to ensure the vehicle is safe for towing.

During previous inspections, volunteers have reported finding various faults that could cause a road incident, including worn tyres and brakes to suspension and electrical issues.
