Since 1997, the Djarindjin community has been seeking community by-laws and on 24 July 2024, it celebrated its official proclamation as a community under the Aboriginal Communities Act 1979.
The proclamation recognises Djarindjin Aboriginal Corporation as the community that will hold the by-laws under the Act and be responsible for the management of activity for the community of 350 people within the traditional lands of the Bardi and Jawi people.
The Corporation is working with the Department and the PBC on an indigenous land use agreement to establish by-laws to manage access and activities across the Djarindjin community.
