Set to be one of the world’s largest green hydrogen projects, environmental approval has recently been granted for the first stage of the Asian Renewable Energy Hub (AREH) in the Pilbara.
The 15GW first stage of the hub, a large-scale wind and solar hybrid renewable energy project near Port Hedland, will create jobs and manufacturing opportunities in WA.
The approval is a huge step forward for the hub, which plans to eventually expand to 26GW of renewable wind and solar generation, providing energy to industries in the Pilbara and providing markets in Asia with green hydrogen and ammonia.
The move follows the WA Recovery Plan initiative to bring forward the WA Renewable Hydrogen Strategy goals from 2040 to 2030.
