New requirements for mining tenement contact and service details in effect

Ensure your service address and Designated Tenement Contact is up to date.
Last updated:

Recent amendments to the Mining Regulations 1981 (WA) introduced new requirements for all mining tenement applicants and holders to maintain a registered service address and a Designated Tenement Contact (DTC).

These changes, made through the Mining Amendment Regulations 2025, modernise communication processes and improve the accuracy and legal integrity of the mining register.

Each mining tenement applicant and holder must have a single nominated DTC who is authorised to receive notices and correspondence from the department, the Warden’s Court and the Director General under prescribed provisions of the Mining Act 1978.

Applicants and holders must also ensure a valid service address is recorded on the register. The service address must be a physical street address (residential or business) and cannot be a post office (PO) box. Maintain accurate details ensures that statutory notices can be validly served and that important regulatory communications are received.

Applicants and holders are responsible for keeping their DTC and service address details up to date. The department’s Mineral Titles Online system (MTO) allows customers to nominate and update service address and DTC details. Alternatively, a Form 30 - application to amend can be completed and submitted at one of the Department of Mines, Petroleum and Exploration’s customer service counters.

A transition period applies for existing tenement holders, allowing time to bring details into compliance with the new regulations. This period ends on 31 October 2026.

Privacy safeguards are available. Individuals may apply to have their address details suppressed from public copies of the register where publication would substantially affect their health, safety or wellbeing.

Further information, including guidance materials and forms, is available on the department’s website.
