Plumbers Licensing Board statement

Following a prosecution by the Plumbers Licensing Board, a Westminster man has been fined $750 for knowingly providing false or misleading information in an application for a plumbing contractor’s licence.

At Perth Magistrates Court on 25 September 2026, Joel Newman pleaded guilty to the offence under regulation 16 of the Plumbers Licensing and Plumbing Standards Regulations 2000.

Magistrate Clare Stanyer sentenced Mr Newman to a fine of $750.

The court heard that Mr Newman failed to disclose pending criminal charges and submitted an altered criminal history check certificate as part of the licence application.

Licensing decisions require careful consideration of whether an applicant is a fit and proper person to hold a licence. The Board relies on applicants providing complete, accurate and truthful information to make informed licensing decisions and protect the integrity of the licensing system.

Providing false or misleading information undermines the Board’s ability to perform its regulatory functions and can erode public confidence in the licensing framework.

This prosecution serves as a reminder that the Board takes such conduct seriously and will pursue enforcement action where appropriate to uphold the integrity of Western Australia’s plumbing licensing scheme.
