‘Influence’ was literally in the spotlight last week at the latest SES Spotlight for members of WA’s Senior Executive Service hosted by Sharyn O’Neill PSM, Public Sector Commissioner.

Premier and Minister for Public Sector Management Roger Cook opened the event and acknowledged all those working in the public sector for their contribution to the state.

Professor Emeritus Geoff Gallop – drawing on his political experiences, academic writings and community services – spoke about the role of influence in serving both the government of the day and the public interest.

Following Professor Gallop’s presentation he joined a panel with the Hon Sue Ellery MLC, Minister for Finance; Commerce; and Women's Interests; Distinguished Professor John Phillimore from the John Curtin Institute of Public Policy; and Emily Roper PSM, Director General of the Department of Premier and Cabinet, for their expertise and insights.

Former political journalist Peter Kennedy facilitated a wide ranging discussion that covered accountability, political nous, judgement, sustainability, public value and leadership.

The SES Spotlight brings together the Senior Executive Service to build shared purpose and a future enabled public sector. It also supports Future Enabled, the strategic narrative of the Western Australian public sector.
