The Office of the Appeals Convenor has concluded Stage 1 and 2 of its appeals process, and commenced Stage 3 (the investigation) into the appeals lodged against the EPA Assessment 1800 for the Valhalla Gas Exploration and Appraisal Program.
Over February and March, the Appeals team focused on establishing the foundations needed to manage the unprecedented volume of appeals received. Key activities completed during this period include:
- Confirming lodgement and administrative validation of all appeals.
- Setting up the appeal’s governance, documentation systems, and communication channels.
- Conducting an initial review of the EPA’s report and recommended conditions.
- Enhancing our systems to assist in organising the large number of appeal grounds.
This work does not involve forming views, making findings, or reaching any conclusions about the merits of any appeal. It establishes the structure needed to ensure all appeal grounds are assessed fairly, consistently and efficiently.
Further updates will be provided as the investigation (Stage 3) progresses into the information-gathering phase.
