The Training Accreditation Council (Council) is pleased to report that regulatory amendments required to implement the new Registration Standards 2025 (2025 Standards) in Western Australia are nearing finalisation.
Subject to government approval processes, it is currently proposed that amendments to the Vocational Education and Training (General) Regulations 2009 (VET Regulations) will take effect from 1 October 2025. The Council will confirm the commencement date once it is formally approved.
The regulatory amendments will formally bring the 2025 Standards into effect for RTOs registered with the Council.
As earlier indicated, a three-month transition period is also planned. During this time
- RTOs must continue to meet the requirements of the Standards for Registered Training Organisations 2015 (2015 Standards).
- All applications will be considered against the 2015 Standards.
Until the new Regulations and the finalised versions of the 2025 Standards are published, RTOs can confidently refer to the policy version of the 2025 Standards available on the TAC Online Guidance Hub. While some adjustments will be made to reflect WA circumstances, the essence of the 2025 Standards remains consistent with the policy version of the 2025 Standards endorsed by the Skills and Workforce Ministerial Council.
Once the final version is released, the Council will also publish a marked-up version of the 2025 Standards that clearly identify where changes have been applied to reflect the WA regulatory context.
Further guidance will be provided as details are confirmed. In the meantime, the Council encourages RTOs to stay engaged with the TAC Education Program, explore the Fact Sheets, and attend webinars.
