2026 WA Training Awards Now Open
The Council is proud to support the 2026 WA Training Awards, coordinated by the Department of Training and Workforce Development and the State Training Board, and encourages all RTOs to promote the Awards within their organisations and amongst colleagues in the VET sector.
The WA Training Awards recognise and reward individuals and organisations that have excelled in VET – from apprentices, trainees and vocational students, to training professionals, training providers and employers committed to the training and development of their staff.
There are a number of award categories and people and organisations from across WA and from all areas of training are encouraged to nominate for the Awards.
Applications close on 10 April 2026 with the Awards announced at a presentation ceremony in Perth on 10 September 2025.
For more information and to apply for the awards visit the WA Training Awards website.
Supporting cultural safety and First Nations student engagement
Creating culturally safe training environments is central to supporting First Nations student participation and success under the 2025 Standards, particularly Standard 2.5.
Ninti One, an Aboriginal‑owned not‑for‑profit organisation, has worked with the Australian Government Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR) to develop a suite of practical resources to help RTOs strengthen cultural safety across their operations. While developed in the context of supporting First Nations participation in the clean energy and decarbonisation workforce, the resources are relevant across all training sectors.
The RTO Guide provides practical guidance on recruitment, induction, mentoring and wrap‑around support, with a focus on embedding cultural safety into both training delivery and organisational practice. The resources offer actionable strategies that RTOs can apply to improve engagement, build trust with First Nations communities and create more inclusive learning environments.
All resources are publicly available on the Ninti One website.
Resources to support students with disability and mental health
To support inclusive practice under 2025 Standards, DEWR has released two resource suites focused on students with disability and student mental health and wellbeing.
The resources to support VET students with disability, developed with the Australian Disability Clearinghouse on Education and Training (ADCET), provide practical guidance to help RTOs meet their obligations under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (Cth), the Disability Standards for Education 2005 (Cth) and the 2025 Standards. Tools and templates support inclusive practice across the student lifecycle, including pre‑enrolment, reasonable adjustment, accessibility, progression and continuous improvement.
DEWR has also released resources to support students’ mental health and wellbeing, strengthening RTO capability to support students experiencing mental health concerns. This suite of resources includes factsheets, case studies and role‑specific guidance to help staff recognise concerns, have appropriate conversations and provide timely referrals.
All resources are publicly available on the DEWR website.
