The newly appointed members, selected through a competitive expression of interest process, have joined seven existing members.
The Council is now comprised of 12 highly respected Aboriginal leaders with diverse experience across community development, justice, health, governance, cultural leadership and systemic reform.
The Council held their first meeting for 2026 in February, where members discussed priorities under their Strategic Plan 2025-2027.
What AACWA does
Guided by its three Strategic Pillars – Truth-telling, Systemic Reform and Youth and Family Justice – the Council continues to provide whole-of- government strategic advice to improve outcomes for Aboriginal people and communities in line with the implementation of the National Agreement on Closing the Gap in WA and the Aboriginal Empowerment Strategy 2021-2029.
AACWA’s work
In recent years the Council has led significant engagement initiatives, including the 2025 Culture at the Heart Forum, which brought together government agencies and Aboriginal leaders to embed Aboriginal perspectives across policy and program design. Planning is now underway for the next forum as part of the Council’s annual Engagement Calendar.
The Council will continue to work closely with Cabinet Ministers and government agencies to influence policy development and advocate for solutions to statement issues affecting Aboriginal communities.
