Owners of recalled double-door BeefEater fridges are urged to immediately turn them off and arrange a refund or replacement, even if the appliance was previously repaired.
The BeefEater BS28200 double-door fridge and the BS28130 single-door model have been recalled nationally due to electrical fire risks.
The recall followed action by WA’s electrical safety regulator, Building and Energy, which issued a Statewide ban on the use, sale and hire of BeefEater BS28200 fridges made between 2017 and 2019 following seven fires in Perth.
The national recall notice was recently updated to advise owners of the affected fridges to turn them off straight away and contact Electrolux Home Products (1800 001 218 or productrecall@electrolux.com) to arrange a refund or free replacement. This advice applies even if the fridge was repaired through the original recall. Electrolux is no longer carrying out these repairs.
The fridges have transparent doors and are designed for use in al-fresco areas. Affected serial numbers, which can be found on the inside wall of the fridge, range from 72900000 to 95299999 and 00100000 to 04599999. The recalled fridges were sold nationally and internationally between approximately July 2017 and November 2021.
Building and Energy Acting Executive Director, Peter Stewart, urged BeefEater fridge owners to act immediately to avoid serious electrical fire hazards.
“If you believe you have a recalled fridge, switch it off straight away and contact Electrolux Home Products for further advice,” he said.
“WA owners of BeefEater BS28200 models made between 2017 and 2019 are also reminded that these fridges cannot be sold, including second-hand.”
