On 5 June 2024, there were significant changes to the award provisions in the state Shop and Warehouse (Wholesale and Retail Establishments) Award.

The changes to the Shop and Warehouse Award include new provisions relating to part time and casual employees.

For part time employees, the WA award now contains a provision that allows a part time employee to request to work more than 64 hours per fortnight. This update is intended to facilitate requests for flexible working arrangements, allowing part time employees to work slightly less than full time hours for a variety of reasons.

For casual employees, changes have been made to the Shop and Warehouse award to standardise the casual loading to 25% for all casual engagements. To improve clarity, the award now also includes the method for applying casual loading to penalty rates.

Retail employers and employees in the state industrial relations system have been using the updated WA award summary for the Shop and Warehouse Award to ensure that their workplace arrangements meet the new requirements.

Visit the Changes to the Shop & Warehouse Award page for details on the updates made to the award.
