WA Health advice following confirmed NSW COVID-19 case

WA Health has issued advice for travellers who have recently returned to WA from New South Wales, following a public health alert issued for parts of Sydney today.

NSW Health issued the alert following the detection of a positive COVID-19 case in a security guard who worked at two Sydney quarantine hotels accommodating returned overseas travellers.

While the risk is deemed to be low, Western Australians who visited the following NSW locations at the stated times should get tested immediately for COVID-19 and quarantine until March 27 – 14 days from March 13 when the case was considered to be infectious.

The man also caught a train from Hurstville, in Sydney at 6:30pm on Friday 12 March and then from Sydney to Hurstville, leaving at 7:00am on Saturday March 13.

NSW Health is contact tracing the case and will notify WA Health if any close or casual contacts are found to be in WA.

WA Health will continue to monitor the situations in Queensland and NSW very closely and will issue updated health advice if required.

WA Health continues to urge anyone with symptoms, such as a fever, headache, cough, sore throat or runny nose, to get tested for COVID-19 and to isolate until they receive a negative result in line with the normal health advice.

WA Police will contact travellers from NSW who have arrived or are arriving into WA or via NSW since 13 March, 2021 from NSW shortly via the G2G Pass system.

If you been in an identified high-risk location during the relevant times you are required to:

  • Contact 13COVID (13 26843) between 8am and 6pm to notify that you have been in a NSW specified location.
  • Immediately self-quarantine at a suitable premises until 12.01am on 27 March 2021.
  • Present for a COVID-19 test within 24 hrs of this notice and again 11 days after your attendance in the identified high-risk location. You are required to wear a face covering and practice physical distancing while attending a COVID clinic to be tested.

If you have not been in one of the identified high-risk locations you are not required to take any action.
