WA Police keep rule breakers in focus this Christmas

News story
WA drivers have been warned they will be caught if they break the law over the Christmas and New Year period, as well as receive double demerit points for taking risks on our roads.
Last updated:

Double demerit points begin in WA at midnight Thursday 20 December 2018 and will run until midnight Sunday 6 January 2019.

Drivers could put their licence in jeopardy with double points handed out for drink or drug driving, red light, mobile phone, speeding and seatbelt offences.

“Most people don’t think about it, but driving is one of the most high-risk activities that we do,” said Acting Road Safety Commissioner Teresa Williams.

“WA Police Force will be watching across the state for drivers who continue to do the wrong thing, such as getting behind the wheel after drinking and using their mobile phone illegally, to keep all road users safe.

“We want everyone to have a safe Christmas, but please remember that driving is a serious task that we can’t take for granted, so please share the roads responsibly.”
