The festive season can often mean more journeys to see friends and family, near and far. As this is traditionally a riskier time on our roads, this December the Road Safety Commission is asking Western Australians how they plan to make their journey safe this Christmas.
On Sunday 3 December, around 300 visitors to Forrest Place in the Perth CBD shared their plan and personalised a keyring as a physical reminder of this to carry with them through the festive season. Road Safety Commissioner Adrian Warner said the family friendly event was a fantastic opportunity for the community to start planning for their Christmas journeys – whether it’s a road trip down south or a spin around the block on a new bike.
“Many families spend months planning the perfect Christmas – the holidays, the food, the presents – but it’s so important we also plan to stay safe on the roads and make it home to our loved ones,” Mr Warner said. “It was great to see people of all ages planning to make their journey safe with behaviours that can seem small but actually add up to a big difference on our roads. “
"Planning to drive at or under the speed limit regardless of how busy or rushed you are at this time of year is one, simple thing everyone behind the wheel can do to make their journey safer.”
It’s not too late to plan to share how you are planning to make your journey safe this Christmas! Head to our Facebook page to share your plan by Sunday 10 December for your chance to win one of 50 family passes to the Telethon Community Cinemas.
