World first ratings system for motorcycle clothing launched

News story
The Road Safety Commission has welcomed the launch of a world first rating system for motorcycle clothing, MotoCAP.
Last updated:

The Commission contributed $51,000 to the development of the Motorcycle Clothing Assessment Program (MotoCAP), that will give the motorcycle community an opportunity to make safer choices about the clothing and protective gear they wear when riding.

MotoCAP will give clothing two separate star ratings, one for protection and one for comfort.

The protection star rating considers performance in abrasion resistance, seam strength and impact protection.

The comfort rating is based on how comfortable the clothing is when it is worn in the Australian climate.

So far this year, 20 people have died on WA roads in motorcycle crashes.

The Consumer Rating and Assessment of Safety Helmets (CRASH)  provides crash test results for motorcycle helmets.
