The Department of Communities (Communities) has introduced the Housing Options Assessment. This assessment is available to anyone seeking rental housing assistance and provides information about housing options you may be eligible for based on your current household circumstances.

Complete and submit the Housing Options Assessment (also see Download below) to obtain assistance. No evidence of current circumstances, income or identification is needed when completing the assessment. Evidence (see Evidence requirement factsheet) only needs to be provided once a decision on a product has been made and a formal application is submitted.

You can download and complete a Housing Options Assessment form and submit it via email, fax or post to your nearest Communities Housing office. If you would prefer, you can visit or telephone your nearest Housing office for help to complete the form.

Once completed you will be provided with a letter outlining information regarding your potential eligibility (see Rental policy manual) for housing assistance products, as well as their availability, accessibility, and affordability. It will also provide information relevant to your household, history and identified priority need.

The assessment is not an application for assistance and does not guarantee eligibility. On completion of the assessment, you will still be required to complete a formal application for any products you wish to apply for.

Housing options assessments provide advice only and are not appealable.
