We recently consulted on a set of proposals to make it easier for customers to connect solar, batteries and EV chargers. We received 23 submissions.
The proposals were to improve solar and battery system functionality for all customers installing inverters with a capacity up to 30 kilowatts, which is needed to roll out flexible exports. We also considered connection rule changes to provide a simpler pathway for businesses to connect solar and battery systems up to 1 megawatt, and to provide better access to network capacity data.
Next steps
We have now considered all stakeholder feedback and intend to develop an exposure draft of changes to the Electricity System and Market Rules (ESMR) for reform proposals 1 to 5. We will continue to discuss proposals 6 and 7 with stakeholders before incorporating them into proposed changes.
DEED will publish its full response to stakeholder feedback alongside the ESMR exposure draft. We will consult again on the exposure draft before recommending final changes to the Minister for Energy and Decarbonisation.
We will work closely with Western Power, the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO), and Building and Energy to ensure changes do not duplicate existing arrangements and support DER uptake.
