On 5 March 2021, the Honourable Neville Owen (AO), the Honourable Lindy Jenkins and Mr Colin Murphy (PSM), were appointed Royal Commissioners to inquire into the suitability of Crown Perth to continue holding a casino gaming licence pursuant to the following Terms of Reference. The Commissioners will also examine the State's regulatory framework, including any actual or perceived conflicts of interest by officers involved in casino regulation, and any matters that might enhance the Gaming and Wagering Commission's future capability and effectiveness.
The Commission will be known as the Perth Casino Royal Commission.
On 30 June 2021, the Commission delivered its Interim Report to the Governor, the Hon Kim Beazley AC, and the office of the Premier, the Hon Mark McGowan MLA. On 3 August 2021, the report was tabled in the Parliament of Western Australia. A copy of the report is available on this website under Publications, Practice Directions and Rulings.
The Commission is expected to deliver its final report by 4 March, 2022.
The Commission will hear closing submissions on Tuesday and Wednesday, 1st and 2nd of February, commencing at 9am in Hearing Room 3.
Hearings generally run from 10am – 1pm, and 2pm – 4pm. Most hearings will be held in Hearing Room 3 and are open to the public. When concurrent hearings are listed, Hearing Room 4 will also be used.
