Apprentice safety assessment guidelines, test and report.

An Electrician’s Training Licence allows apprentices and trainees in WA to legally perform electrical work under supervision while completing their training. If you complete a pre-apprenticeship and move to an apprenticeship you need to re-apply for a licence.

If you have previously held a training licence, you can skip to Step 4.  

  1. Read the Safety Guidelines
    These guidelines explain how to work safely as an apprentice electrician.

  2. Complete the Safety Test
    Your employer will conduct a written test based on the guidelines. You’ll need to score at least 80% to pass.

After your application has been submitted

Licence applications typically take 8-10 weeks to process. We’ll contact you if we need any additional information, and you’ll receive an email once your licence has been finalised. 

Extending an Electrician's Training License

Apprenticeship: 
An apprenticeship Electrician's training licence is valid for the term of the apprenticeship, plus 3 months. If your apprenticeship is extended, ensure that you have notified the Department of Training and Workforce development. You can check WA Apprenticeship Management System (WAAMS) Client Portal to check your contract status. Your licence will automatically be extended and you'll receive a new card in the post. 

Pre-apprenticeship:
A pre-apprentice training licence is valid for the term of the pre-apprenticeship. If your pre-apprenticeship is extended, complete and submit the form below. Applications must be lodged before the training licence expires.
