Fireworks operator licence

Fireworks operator licences allow the holder to possess, set up and initiate outdoor fireworks, initiate firecracker chains at ceremonial occasions and initiate indoor fireworks under the Dangerous Goods Safety (Explosives) Regulations 2007.

Fireworks contractor licence

Fireworks contractor licences allow the holder to manufacture, purchase, store, possess, transport, use fireworks and apply for a fireworks event permit under the Dangerous Goods Safety (Explosives) Regulations 2007.

Pyrotechnics (special use) licence

Pyrotechnics (special use) licences is required for the use, storage and transport of theatrical fireworks or specialised pyrotechnics events under the Dangerous Goods Safety (Explosives) Regulations 2007.

Fireworks event permit

A fireworks event permit is required for a single fireworks event or a group of consecutive events at the same venue.

Ceremonial fireworks notice

A ceremonial fireworks notice must be completed by the fireworks operator or pyrotechnics (special use) licence holder who is using the ceremonial fireworks in an event.

The Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety (LGIRS) collects personal information for the purpose of:

  • regulating the manufacture, storage, transport, supply, handling, or use of dangerous goods in Western Australia. 
  • processing your application, 
  • administering licences and registrations, 
  • undertaking compliance and enforcement activities, 
  • undertaking engagement and educational activities 

Your personal information is collected as required of us under the provisions of the Dangerous Goods Safety Act 2004

If you do not provide the requested information, LGIRS may be unable to process your application, or provide the relevant services.

Your information may be disclosed where authorised or required by law. This may include an online licence search, a publicly available register, shared with other departments at LGIRS, to other government agencies, regulatory bodies, emergency services, employers, site operators, transport operators, and other third parties.
