Qualifying for a motor vehicle repairer's certificate

How to qualify to be a motor vehicle repairer.

To be a certified motor vehicle repairer, applicants must demonstrate they are sufficiently qualified in each class of repair work for which they are applying. The methods for qualifying for certification are outlined below.

Option 1: Formal qualification and training

To be considered qualified for a specific class of motor vehicle repair work, you need to meet certain qualifications

How to meet the qualifications:

  • Complete an apprenticeship or other relevant training through a Registered Training Organisation (RTO), such as TAFE.
Note: Training package names and certificates have changed over time. If your qualification replaces one listed in the Regulations, it can still be accepted.
