Draft Position Statement – Purpose-built student accommodation – have your say

To support Western Australia's growing reputation as a destination for international students, a draft Position Statement - Purpose-built student accommodation (PBSA or draft Position Statement) has been prepared.

In addition to providing much-needed student housing, good quality PBSA can enhance the student experience, strengthen WA's position in international education, boost the local economy, and potentially contribute to broader housing affordability solutions.

The Position Statement will:

  • Provide clear guidance on design considerations, such as amenity provision and building aesthetics, to ensure high-quality living environments for students.
  • Address key planning considerations including proximity to educational institutions and transport, carparking and traffic management, the potential for adaptive reuse, and ensuring PBSA developments integrate with their surroundings.
