Three referees are required for an Order of Australia nomination.
Referees can be peers and people that know the person you are nominating. They may be representatives of organisations where the person has worked or volunteered. Industry experts familiar with the work of the nominee are also ideal referees.
The referees are contacted via email when a nomination is first lodged via the online portal at gg.gov.au.
All three referees must provide a written reference in order for a nomination to be finalised and eligible for consideration by the Council for the Order of Australia.
