Salinity situation statement: Kent River

Technical Report
Water resource technical series report WRT 33 - Salinity situation of the Kent River catchment.
Last updated:

This report analyses where and why the Kent River water became so saline, describes the current salinity situation and highlights the scale of intervention required to reduce its salinity.

The objectives of this report were to assess and report the current salinity situation of the catchment with respect to land-use changes, groundwater and surface water, model the hydrology of the catchment to estimate future salinity and propose management options and their likely effects on stream salinity and water yield.

The Kent River Water Resource Recovery Catchment (referred to as the Kent River catchment in this report) is defined as the area from the headwaters of the Kent River to the Styx Junction gauging station. The upper catchment comprises the area from the river’s headwaters to the Rocky Glen gauging station and the lower catchment is the area between the Rocky Glen and Styx Junction gauging stations.
