Latest update – as of 14 April 2026
- Australia’s fuel stock position is currently secure, with more than 30 days in reserves and shipments continuing to arrive. Western Australians are encouraged to only buy the fuel they need.
- FuelWatch is expanding from 1 May to include every fuel retailer across WA (adding approximately 200 extra retailers), with increased fines for retailers who don’t report prices. Reporting of fuel outages will also soon become mandatory.
- The WA Government has purchased an additional 4 million litres of diesel, which will be 100 per cent State owned and able to be directed quickly to where it’s needed most, including remote communities and key industries such as agriculture.
- The WA Government will cover increased fuel costs under the Regional Airfare Zone Cap scheme, keeping airfares capped for regional Western Australians travelling to Perth.
- Additional transport and aviation industry initiatives have been announced to reduce costs and keep WA moving. Find out more here.
- The WA Government issued orders on 1 April to the fuel industry to share information on their fuel supply chains, using emergency powers under the Fuel Energy and Power Resources Act. This will provide more visibility and ensure fuel is sent where it’s needed most. See more information on the industry page.
- The Australian Government has announced it will halve the fuel excise on petrol and diesel for three months which commenced on 1 April.
- All states and territories, including WA, remain at Level 2 on the National Fuel Security Plan, which allows the WA Government to gather timely data and information from the industry.
The State Government continues to work closely with the Australian Government and industry to support a coordinated national approach to fuel security and distribution impacted by the conflict in the Middle East.
While global factors may influence fuel markets, measures are in place to help manage impacts in Western Australia.
To help maintain reliable access to fuel across the State, the Fuel Security State Controller, supported by a State Management Team, is working with industry to manage supply and distribution issues.
