The WA Government will provide a weekly fuel update to keep the public informed on the state’s fuel security.
These updates will detail the specific actions the Government is taking to manage supply chain issues caused by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Summary of current fuel situation (24 April)
What was achieved this week:
- The WA Government has entered an agreement with Rio Tinto and Viva to purchase an additional 8 million litres of diesel for Western Australia's strategic stockpile.
- The fuel is in addition to normal import allocations of fuel for WA and will be stored at Esperance and Kwinana.
- Expanding the WA Government diesel stockpile will ensure the continuity of government services and industry, should international supply chains weaken.
- This week the Australian Government announced that it had secured four additional cargoes of diesel. One of these cargoes is bound for Kwinana.
- We are delivering a $3.8 million support package to Western Australia's food relief sector as unprecedented fuel price increases place significant strain on food relief services.
- This includes $1.5 million in targeted funding for major food relief providers ($500,000 each) - Foodbank, OzHarvest, and SecondBite - to offset escalating freight and logistics costs and ensure continued distribution of essential food supplies across Western Australia.
- In response to concerns that the full excise cut may not be being passed on, we have written to more than 700 fuel retailers seeking information on margins between wholesale and retail prices.
- FuelWatch continues ensure retailers stick to the '24 hour' rule. 68 infringements have been issued so far for breaches.
What we are working to address:
- Wednesday 29 April is the deadline for fuel retailers to respond to the Consumer Protection Commissioner with information about price margins.
- On Friday 1 May all fuel retailers in WA must take part in Fuelwatch and report their prices for the following 24 hours.
