The ROI process is now closed.
The devastating flooding caused by ex-tropical cyclone Ellie in early 2023 severely impacted the Fitzroy Valley, causing significant damage to housing and infrastructure in the region, along with major disruption to the lives of local people, particularly in Fitzroy Crossing and surrounding remote Aboriginal communities.
As families residing in the 47 Temporary Accommodation Units (TAUs) start returning to their repaired or rebuilt long-term homes, planning is underway to deliver a beneficial community outcome regarding the future use of the 150 modules that comprise the TAUs. This includes the construction of 20 additional homes in the Fitzroy Valley utilising structural components from other TAU modules.
A culturally informed, Registration of Interest process is now underway for local businesses and residents in the Kimberley (with preference given to the Fitzroy Valley), to obtain up to 110 modules for use as temporary accommodation and office purposes, noting these residual modules are unable to be converted into permanent housing. Module types include amenities modules, decking / verandah modules, 2-bedroom self-contained modules and 3-bedroom modules.
Further details on the modules available can be found in the ROI Guide for Respondents.
Local residents, businesses, community organisations and government agencies operating in the region are invited to register their interest in acquiring the vacated TAU modules to support and enhance their service delivery outcomes.
The ROI process will support the valuable work of organisations and agencies in the Fitzroy Valley and the wider Kimberley region to provide temporary accommodation and/or facility space solutions to further enhance service delivery outcomes.
