About

The Western Australian Premier’s WACE Bursary (the Bursary) provides up to 50 successful international Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) graduates with a total payment of $20,000 towards their living, travel and study expenses.

The Bursary is provided to support international WACE graduates who commence undergraduate or tertiary pathway studies in-person at one of Western Australia's 5 universities or at a Western Australian tertiary pathway provider.

Who is eligible

To be eligible for the Western Australian Premier’s WACE bursary, an international student must:

  1. Have completed their WACE at an approved offshore SCSA school within 24 months of submitting an application for the Western Australian Premier’s WACE Bursary or be an offshore Year 12 WACE student who is on track to complete their WACE within the next 12 months;
  2. Accept an offer from a Western Australian university or tertiary pathway provider for an onshore full-time enrolment as an international student, with studies commencing in the 2024 or 2025 academic year; and
  3. Be studying a course of at least one-year (two semesters) in length.

Before receiving the Bursary, successful applicants must:

  1. Have commenced studies onshore at their selected Western Australian university or Western Australian tertiary pathway provider in the Semester for which they are applying;
  2. Provide a copy of their Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) from their selected Western Australian university or tertiary pathway provider;
  3. Have attendance in their enrolled course confirmed past the relevant census date; and
  4. Provide evidence of their Australian bank account. 

Who is not eligible

Students who are not eligible for the Western Australian Premier’s WACE Bursary include:

  1. Citizens and permanent residents of Australia;
  2. Onshore international students;
  3. Students who completed their WACE over 24 months prior to submitting an application for the Western Australian Premier’s WACE Bursary;
  4. Students who are studying a course of less than one-year duration; and
  5. Students who do not meet other eligibility criteria described in the Guidelines.

How to apply

Follow the steps below:

  1. Go to SmartyGrants Portal 
  2. Click on the ‘Start a submission’ link.
  3. Complete the application registration process. You will receive an email confirming your reference number (WACE24###).
  4. Complete the online application form, ensuring all questions are responded to. You can save and return to the application form at any time before you submit the form (before the close date and time).
  5. Once your application is complete, click ‘Submit’.
  6. You will receive an automated email acknowledging that your application has been received. Without this acknowledgment, your application has not been submitted.

Applications can be made on a rolling basis, and will be assessed at specific selection dates throughout the year:

  • 6 August 2024
  • 12 November 2024
  • 7 January 2025
  • 18 February 2025
  • 4 March 2025
  • 5 August 2025

Frequently asked questions

I am enrolling in a packaged pathway course am I eligible?

Yes, offshore WACE graduates who have enrolled or have a packaged letter of offer from a tertiary education provider leading to enrol in a university are eligible for this Bursary.

I am currently enrolled in a Western Australian university, am I still eligible for this Bursary?

Yes, if you have enrolled to study in Western Australia but not yet commenced you may be eligible for this Bursary.

I completed my WACE offshore in the last 24 months but have not yet enrolled to study in Western Australia, am I still eligible for this Bursary?

Yes, if you are actively applying to Western Australian universities or tertiary pathway providers you may be eligible for this Bursary.

How much is the Bursary worth?

The total value of the Bursary is $20,000. For Stream 1 (university), it is a one-off payment. For stream 2(tertiary pathway program), it is divided in to two payments: $5,000 during the pathway program and $15,000 upon commencing university studies.

How do I demonstrate Academic excellence?

Your ATAR score will be used to assess your academic excellence.

I have an ATAR score between 50-70 and do not meet university entrance requirement. Can I apply for this Bursary?

Applicants with low ATAR scores that do not meet university entrance requirements can choose to enrol in a university packaged pathway course at a tertiary institute.

I am a Year 12 student completing my WACE in an offshore school. Can I apply for this Bursary?

Yes, applicants who are currently in Year 12 at an offshore SCSA approved school can apply. Successful Year 12 students will be provisionally eligible and bursary amounts will be disbursed once confirmation of enrolment to a Western Australian education institute has been received.

I am currently undertaking an English language (ELICOS) pathway in to university, can I apply for this scholarship?

No, unfortunately the Western Australian Premier’s WACE Bursary is open to tertiary pathway packages only.
