About

The Western Australian Premier’s WACE Bursary provides up to 50 successful international Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) graduates with a one-off payment of $20,000 towards their living, travel and study expenses. 

The Bursary will be provided to support international WACE graduates who commence undergraduate studies in-person at one of Western Australia's 5 universities: Curtin University, Edith Cowan University, Murdoch University, The University of Notre Dame (Fremantle Campus), and The University of Western Australia.

Who is eligible

To be eligible for the Western Australian Premier’s WACE bursary, an international student must:

  1. Have completed their WACE at an approved offshore SCSA school within 12 months of submitting an application for the Western Australian Premier’s WACE Bursary;
  2. Accepted an offer from a Western Australian university for an onshore full-time enrolment as an international student at a Western Australian university, with studies commencing in the 2023 academic year;
  3. Be studying a course of at least one-year (two semesters) in length; and
  4. Have commenced studies onshore at their selected university in the Semester for which they are applying.

Who is not eligible

Students who are not eligible for the Western Australian Premier’s WACE Bursary include:

  1. Citizens and permanent residents of Australia;
  2. Onshore international students;
  3. Students who completed their WACE over 12 months prior to submitting an application for the Western Australian Premier’s WACE Bursary;
  4. Students who have not accepted an offer from a Western Australian university for an onshore full-time enrolment, with studies commencing in the 2023 academic year;
  5. Students who are studying a course for less than one-year duration;
  6. Students who will not have commenced their studies onshore at their selected university in the semester for which they are applying; and
  7. Students who do not meet other eligibility criteria described in the Guidelines.

How to apply

Follow the steps below:

  1. Go to SmartyGrants Portal 
  2. Click on the ‘Start a submission’ link.
  3. Complete the application registration process. You will receive an email confirming your reference number (WACE23S2###).
  4. Complete the online application form, ensuring all questions are responded to. You can save and return to the application form at any time before you submit the form (before the close date and time).
  5. Once your application is complete, click ‘Submit’.
  6. You will receive an automated email acknowledging that your application has been received. Without this acknowledgment, your application has not been submitted.

Important timings

Applications for Semester 2, 2023 open at 9am (AWST) on Wednesday 1 February 2023 and close 3pm (AWST) on Friday 30 June 2023.

Please note, complete applications with all required documentation will be prioritised for assessment.

Frequently asked questions

I don’t hold a student visa but I am enrolled to commence my course in 2023. Will I qualify for this payment?

Applicants must be able to demonstrate they have a confirmed full-time enrolment as an international student at an eligible institution for a course length of at least one year commencing in Semester 1 or Semester 2, 2023 to be eligible for this bursary.

My enrolled course is shorter than one year (two semesters). Can I still apply?

No, current eligibility criteria for this payment requires students to be studying in Western Australia for a minimum of one year (two semesters) or more.

I am an international student and have completed my WACE in the last 12 months, I am already studying at a WA university. Can I still apply?

No, current eligibility criteria for this payment requires students to be commencing their course onshore in Western Australia in Semester 1 or 2, 2023.

If found successful for the bursary payment, am I able to postpone my course into 2024?

What is the documentation I need to attach to avoid delays in the assessment of my application?

When submitting your application through SmartyGrants, you will be asked to attach key documents to verify your information. Details of these can be found in these Guidelines. It is important you attach the correct documents in order to avoid delays in assessing your application as eligible for the Premier’s WACE Bursary.
