Review of Western Australian Government Intellectual Property Policy

We are leading a review of the WA Government Intellectual Property (IP) Policy, which guides WA public sector agencies in developing, managing and using IP.
Last updated:

Intellectual property (IP) includes everything from inventions to artworks, written works, designs, symbols, names and images. IP could be described as 'creations of the mind'.

The activities of the WA Government often generate valuable IP with potential economic, social and environmental benefits for the community.

We are leading a review of the Western Australian Government Intellectual Property Policy (the WA Government IP Policy). The review aims to:

  • develop an outcomes-focused IP policy that reflects best practice and encourages innovation by the public sector
  • guide public sector agencies to create beneficial outcomes by developing and commercialising IP.

As part of the review, we have released a Discussion Paper that outlines potential policy and implementation options. We are seeking feedback on these proposals from government and non-government stakeholders with an interest in contributing to an updated WA Government IP Policy.
