Declaration of reservation of blocks

Reserved blocks cannot be the subject of an exploration permit, drilling reservation, retention lease, production licence, special prospecting authority or access authority.

Pursuant to Section 28 of the Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Resources Act 1967 (the Act), the Minister may declare a reservation of graticular blocks not subject to a live title. Reserved blocks declared under either section 28(1)(petroleum) or section 28(1a) (geothermal) of the Act shall not be the subject of an exploration permit, drilling reservation, retention lease, production licence, special prospecting authority or access authority, relevant to that resource type.

A Declaration of Reservation of blocks remains in effect for a set period unless otherwise revoked or varied.
