Greenhouse Gas Injection Licence

Greenhouse Gas Injection Licences provide holders with rights to carry out operations for the injection and storage of greenhouse gases within the licence area.
Last updated:

Following the declaration of an identified greenhouse gas storage formation, title holders have a statutory right to apply for a greenhouse gas Injection Licence. These licences are granted for an indefinite term and may be subject to termination if the licensee has not carried on any greenhouse gas injection operations under the licence at any time during a continuous period of at least five years.

Injection Licences provide holders with rights to carry out operations for the exploration of potential greenhouse gas storage formations and injection sites, and the physical injection and storage of greenhouse gases within identified storage formations within the licence area, in accordance with an approved Site Plan and other secondary work approvals.

A Production Licence is the comparable title for the recovery of petroleum or geothermal energy resources. More information can be found on the dedicated Production Licence webpage.
