Clearing of native vegetation is prohibited in Western Australia except where a clearing permit has been granted or an exemption applies.

The Department of Mines, Petroleum and Exploration (DMPE) has the delegated authority to administrate applications to clear native vegetation for petroleum activities.

A native vegetation clearing permit is required if a proposed petroleum activity is not eligible for an exemption.
